SEMPORNA: A man was burnt to death, while another suffered minor injuries when the car they were travelling in met with an accident at Km1 of Jalan Seri Melur-Semporna here early this morning.
The deceased, whose identity has yet to be established, was behind the wheel of the Proton Wira when he lost control of the vehicle, which skidded, turned turtle and burst into flames in the 2.15am incident.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old male passenger miraculously escaped from the car with only minor injuries.
“By the time police arrived at the location at 2.20am, they found the car on fire and upside down on the street.
“Fire and Rescue Department personnel were on site to put out the blaze.
“The (surviving) victim was brought to the district hospital for treatment,” the Semporna district police said in a statement.
Preliminary investigations point to negligence by the driver, who drove at high speed, as the cause of the accident.
