Man killed after car crashes into toll booth barrier

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 27-year-old unemployed man was killed when his Perodua MyVi rammed into the Lima Kedai Toll Plaza here late last night.

In the 11pm accident, Chong Yue Sheng, from Jalan Leong Bee in Gelang Patah, was killed instantly.

The car’s front portion suffered extensive damage after it smashed into the toll plaza’s concrete divider.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Hashim Mohamad said the victim was heading to Senai from Gelang Patah when he lost control of his car, which rolled over several times before ramming into the concrete divider.

“The victim was pinned in the vehicle and fire fighters from the Iskandar Puteri fire station took about an hour to extricate the body,” he said when contacted today.

He said police are investigating whether the driver was driving under the influence or had dozed off when the incident occurred.

“We are looking at all angles. However, at the moment, we are classifying the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving,” he said.

He said the victim’s remains were sent to the Kulai hospital for a post mortem.
