PM congratulates new Sultan of Kedah; reminisces about late ruler

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today congratulated Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah on being proclaimed the new Sultan of Kedah.

“Heartiest congratulations to Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, who has been proclaimed as the 29th Sultan of Kedah today.

“Hopefully Kedah Darul Aman will progress and be blessed by Allah. Daulat Tuanku,” he said in his Facebook page.

The proclamation of the Raja Muda of Kedah as the new state ruler follows the demise of his elder brother Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah yesterday.

Najib later posted two pictures — One of him and Sultan Abdul Halim and the other of his father, Tun Abdul Razak, sharing a light moment with the ruler.

Both were taken during the times that the Sultan had served as Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“I am reminded of the late Tuanku Abdul Halim, who always said that had been unlikely that this had repeated in history. The first time Tuanku became Yang di-Pertuan Agong my father was the prime minister and the second time I had become the prime minister.

“May Allah bless the late Tuanku and place him among the ‘syuhada’. Al-Fatihah.”
