Selangor MB pledges support for families of tahfiz fire victims

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor government will work with the state’s Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) to provide necessary assistance to families of victims of the morning blaze which destroyed the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz school in Datuk Keramat here.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who was present at the scene, said the state is ready to help with any assistance needed.

“I managed to speak to Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dasuki, and also representatives from Jais and Jawi.

'We are ready to provide a hearse to transport the bodies of the victims back to their hometowns, as some are believed to be from other states.

'We have also prepared a team to provide counselling to the families, as this fire incident is the biggest in terms of casualties.

'We are very much saddened over this incident and hope that the families will remain strong and patient (in this trying time)," Azmin said at a press conference after visiting the scene.

He said he also hopes that no parties will speculate on the cause of the fire until full investigations are completed.
