Jawi confirms khalwat raid on celebrity duo

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) has confirmed that its officers raided the premises where two celebrities were detained last night.

Jawi said its Enforcement Division raided the premises based on a tip-off and investigations under the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997 (Act 559), Section 27 (khalwat) were ongoing.

A married Singaporean actor was allegedly caught in close proximity (khalwat) with a Malaysian actress at a luxury condominium here early this morning.

The arrest, carried out by the Jawi based on public information, occurred at the actress' residence.

The couple, currently filming a drama, were found together when enforcement officers arrived, suspecting them of being in close proximity.
