KUANTAN: Two members of a family were killed and two others seriously injured when the car they were in collided with a lorry near Kampung Sungai Soi, here, today.
Tuan Mohd Zulhaizee Tuan Temeran, 38, and his mother Kelsom Hamat, 66, were killed on the spot in the 4.50pm incident.
Zulhaizee’s sister and father, whose identities have not been released, survived with severe injuries.
It is understood that the incident happened when the driver of the 12-tonne lorry, which was heading to Kuantan from Sungai Soi, lost control of the vehicle, which then veered into the path of the Proton Iswara driven by Zulhaizee.
District Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Md Yusof Husin said the department received a distress call at 4.54pm and deployed a team.
“When we arrived, the body of one of the victims, believed to have been seated in the rear, had already been extricated from the vehicle by members of the public.
“Firemen took around 15 minutes to extricate the body of the driver, who was pinned in his seat. Two other victims, the sister and father of the driver, suffered severe injuries and were rushed to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) for further treatment,” said Yusof, who was at the location of the accident.
It is understood that police are now trying to track down the driver of the lorry as he had fled the scene following the accident.
Yusof said the bodies of the deceased were brought to HTAA for post-mortem examination, adding that rescue operations were completed at 6.20pm.
