Only BN submitted GE14 list of candidates for screening, says MACC

PADANG BESAR: Barisan Nasional (BN) is the only political party so far that has submitted its list of candidates for the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14) to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said although it is not compulsory for any political party to submit the list, BN has done so to ensure that candidates are not involved in abuse of power and corruption.

"There is no law or demand for political party to do this. (But) the MACC welcomes such move and urged all political parties to also check the background of their candidates," he told reporters after attending the state-level MACC’s Kembara Jelajah Anti Rasuah (KEJAR'17) at Kampung Pengas, here today.

He said so far, only BN and its component parties have submitted the list of candidates to MACC.

Dzulkifli said MACC has no issue in conducting background checks on the candidates for the GE14.

On KEJAR'17, Dzulkifli said the 13-day roadshow involved more than 40 high-powered motorcycles in a convoy crossing 2,000km from Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Terengganu and Perlis.

He said the programme, aimed at spreading anti-corruption messages to the public, was also part of MACC's 50-year celebration.
