Pressmen get media room for Kim Chol murder trial

SHAH ALAM: Entering the seventh day of trial of the two women who were accused of killing North Kim Chol, a special media room was provided for the convenience of pressmen covering the proceedings.

The room, located at the left wing of the Shah Alam Court Complex, which could accomodate 40 members of the media, is equipped with a screen which transmits the live proceedings from the courtroom.

According to a statement issued by the Federal Court Chief Registrar's Office, the room was made available for the media as there was limited seating inside the courtroom.

Since day one of the proceedings on Oct 2, only 10 local media houses and 10 foreign news agencies were allowed inside the courtroom for coverage of the proceedings.

Apart from Bernama, RTM, AFP, Reuters and AP which are given priority seating, other news agencies would only be allowed in on a rotation basis.

On March 1, Indonesian Siti Aisyah, 25 and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, 28, were charged along with four others who are still at large with murdering 45-year-old “Kim Chol”.

Kim Chol was claimed to be Jong-nam, the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
