18-year-old maid lodges report over abuse by employer

KOTA BARU: An 18-year-old maid lodged a police report alleging that she was abused by her employer since May.

The victim who is from Sarawak, made the report at the district police station in Pengkalan Chepa here yesterday.

The victim who had bruises on her hands and injuries on her face, was later taken to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II (RPZII) hospital for treatment. However, she only sought outpatient treatment at the hospital.

The victim began working for her employer, who is a doctor in Kubang Kerian since the beginning of the year.

According to the victim, she was beaten with a cloth hanger by her employer several times after accusing her of failing to carry out the housework.

"She also kicked me several times. Besides accusing me of failing to do my job, my employer also accused me of lying to her," she said when met at the RPZII hospital's emergency unit.

The victim said the incident started in May until she decided to escape from her employer on Thursday and make a police report.

She also claimed besides her employer, she was also abused by her husband.

She said her employer, who has three children also failed to pay her salary as promised.

"Before working with them, they promised to pay me RM1,000 a month but they only paid RM800.

"They also did not pay my salary for several months," she said.

Meanwhile, Kelantan Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Fakri Che Sulaiman confirmed that police have received a report on the case and investigation are being carried out.
