'Bogus dentist' Nara finally says sorry

MELAKA: 'Bogus dentist' Nur Farahanis Ezzaty Adli, who was jailed after being convicted of offering unlicensed dental services, has issued a public apology.

The 20-year-old, better known to her social media followers as Nara, made the apology via a video on Harian Metro, some two weeks after she was roundly criticised by netizens for not owning up to her mistakes.

In the five-minute video, she expressed regret for publishing what was deemed a misleading video following her release from jail.

She also admitted that contrary to her earlier claims, she did not receive any help from the Health Ministry.

"Today I want to make an apology video as well as an explanation on the issues being discussed on social media.

"First of all, I'd like to touch on the issue of my video uploaded on February 2, where people had labeled me arrogant and showing no remorse despite being sentenced to jail."

Nur Farahanis said the video was made with good intentions in mind, and that she wasn't seeking publicity.

“The video was meant as a way for me to say thank you to everyone who had spent time to listen and understand my situation at that moment.

"I did not receive any help from the Health Ministry or the Health Minister himself; I admit that I did not get any help.

"But it’s okay, I still want to apologise as the video had caused so many problems. I am sorry if I had offended anyone," she said.

In the video, she also apologised to all dental practitioners in the country.

“I would also like to say sorry to all dentists, dental experts and everyone in the dentistry field for my wrongdoings.

“I was just 19. I did not know anything about the law and that my actions would cause a lot of problems.

“Perhaps, this will serve as a lesson to me. I totally regret my actions.

“It will also be a lesson to others as well to not make the same mistake. My wrongdoings have caused troubles to others," she said.

Nur Farahanis also clarified that she did not receive any financial assistance from the Malaysian Muslim Consumers' Association (PPIM) and Malaysia Islamic Economic Activist Organisation (PPIEM).

She hoped that people would not misinterpret her situation any longer.

“With the help of the public, my friends and my family member’s friend, they managed to pay the fine and I only served six days in prison,” she said.

Nur Farahanis said she is now planning for a better future.

She had previously pleaded guilty to providing private dental services without registration under Section 27 of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 (Act 586).
