Two killed, two injured in four-motorcycle pile up at BORR

BUTTERWORTH: Two people were killed while two others injured in an accident involving four motorcycles at the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) here early this morning.

The deceased were identified as Mohd Fizal Ahmad, 32, and Che Sub Saad, 56, a Seberang Prai Municipal Council employee.

The other two motorcyclists sustained injuries to their face, hands and legs.

All four were heading to Butterworth from the Bagan Ajam toll plaza when the incident happened about 7.30am.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said investigation showed Fizal had apparently loss control of his machine and knocked into one of the injured motorcyclist.

He said the collision caused Fizal to fall to the middle of the road while the injured motorcyclist, to the side.

“Che Sub, who failed to brake on time, knocked into Fizal and fell off his machine, killing him on the spot.

“At the same time, the fourth motorcyclist knocked into an object on the road, fell and injured himself too.

“Fizal died on the way to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment,” he said.

Noorzainy said investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Netizens have taken to social media to lament on the poor condition of the stretch where the accident happened.

Zul Fathi Asmaon said he used the stretch daily and there were potholes everywhere, noting that it was a matter of time before he will have to change his car's absorbers.

Even Intan Sakinar said she felt like she was “hopping” whenever she rides her motorcycle at the area.

Another netizen, Nofa Feyla, said due to poor lighting, the area was usually dark at dawn.

“Many accidents have happened along the stretch.

“I hope the authorities take the matter serious and address the complaints promptly.” she added.

According to Fizal’s neighbour, identified as Hasmadi, the deceased’s wife had just given birth to their child three months ago.

“He is a very nice person who cares for this family,” he added.

Che Sub’s nephew, known as Amri, said the incident happened when his uncle was on his way to work.
