Pitas car crash survivor still unaware that his four friends killed in the incident

KOTA KINABALU: A Form Six student who survived a car accident which killed four of his friends in Pitas this morning, is in a stable condition.

Lotijin Naruun, 38, the father of Mikhievinlee, said his son had stabilised after receiving treatment at the Queen Elizabeth hospital here.

"The X-ray scan shows that his brain is fine but there is a crack on the eye (socket).

"The hospital has allowed him return to Pitas as he is stable," he told the New Straits Times at the hospital.

At the time of the interview, Mikhivinlee had not been informed about the death of his friends.

The victims were Form Six students Sweeta Kongkoyan, Dayang Munisah Exon, Evi Elsie Jukirim and and Form Four student Rebecca Stacey Saimon.

Those injured in the incident were Form Six students Aewinkafo Lawrence, Fairus Ejoy Marayau, Jaklin Johglin and Elden Elio.

Lotijin said they had known each other since Mikhievinlee went to SMK Pitas 2.

"My son has been going to school in the car every day.

"I think the car is provided by the school as their daily transport," he said.

Lotijin said he was shocked when informed at 7am that his his son was involved in an accident.

He said he was not sure who drove the car when the accident happened.

Police were alerted about the incident at 6.30am.

Kota Marudu police chief Superintendent Mohd Izaan Abdullah said the driver, who had a licence, had lost control of the car when it crashed.

He said over-speeding was likely the cause of the accident.
