Apandi confirms he lodged police reports against Raja Petra

KUANTAN: Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali has confirmed lodging police reports against blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, over an online article published recently.

He said the reports were filed at police stations here in Pahang and Putrajaya on Sunday.

"Confirmed, I did lodge the police reports," he said in a brief WhatsApp message.

Apandi said the offence should come under Section 499 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh when contacted confirmed receiving the report.

He said apart from Section 499, the investigation was also being conducted under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

On Oct 22, an online portal of an English daily reported Apandi as rubbishing the allegation contained in the blog, and had threatened to sue Raja Petra.

He had said that he would also be seeking advice from lawyers in the UK, where Petra is currently based at.
