Selangor government needs to present better 2018 budget to boost state economy

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government must present a viable budget proposal for 2018 that can actually boost the state economy, Selangor Barisan Nasional said Thursday.

Its deputy chairman Datuk Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan said the PKR-led state should prove their capability instead of riding on the successes brought in by the Federal government and claiming it as theirs.

"We are hoping that the state budget for 2018 that will be tabled tomorrow would contain original initiatives by the state administration which can spur Selangor's economic growth.

"The current administration have been going to town saying that Selangor contributes 21 per cent to the country's revenue, when the truth is most of the state's revenue actually comes from efforts made by the Federal government," Nadzari said.

He went on to say that when Pakatan Rakyat won Selangor in 2008, the state was already well-developed with financial reserves of around RM1 billion and an annual income of around RM3 billion.

"What have they done since they took over? There is no growth in state economy... even the annual income remains around the same compared to when they took Selangor nine years ago," he told reporters during a press conference at the Selangor Umno Building.

Nadzari, who is assemblyman for Batang Kali, said Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali should come up with a budget that promotes state economy, and stop taking pride in the state's financial reserves when he failed to contribute to its growth.

During the press conference, which was also attended by other Selangor BN assemblymen, Mat Nadzari said they would bring five motions into the state assembly sitting which starts on Friday.

The motions include urging the state government to sign the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's Corruption Free Pledge, revocation of family entertainment centres' licenses if they are found to be abusing the permit, and to urge the state government to reinstate the original role of Yayasan Selangor's establishment including to reopen Tun Dr Ismail and Toh Puan Norashikin's hostels.
