2 teenagers killed, 2 hurt after being rammed by taxi

JOHOR BARU: Two teenagers were killed while two others were injured after they were rammed by a taxi while they were trying to repair a motorcycle at the side of the road early this morning.

Mohamad Alif Aiman Azhar, 15, died on the spot while Kamarul Fathullah Afiq Kamarul Hashim, 19, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) here about 6am.

The two victims were with three other friends travelling on three motorcycles towards Pasir Gudang when the accident happened about 1.45am in Jalan Pantai near Pasir Gudang.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahurinain Jais said the group had stopped at the side of the road after one of the motorcycles broke down.

"The taxi was travelling from Johor Baru towards Pasir Gudang when it suddenly went out of control and swerved to the left before ramming the group. Besides the two deceased, two other teenagers were injured and taken to HSI while the other teenager escaped unhurt." said Shahurinain.

He said the 38-year-old taxidriver had been detained.

"A urine test was conducted on the driver and it turned out to be positive for methamphetamine," said Shahurinain.

He said the case was being invesitgated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.
