AirAsia, MAS suspend flights to and from Bali for second day

KUALA LUMPUR: All AirAsia to and from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), Bali, remained closed for a second day on Tuesday.

In a statement today the airlines, said the closure of the airport, follows a safety advisory from local authority following the continued volcanic activity of Mt Agung.

“Following safety advisory from local authority regarding volcanic activity of Mt. Agung, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) of Bali will remain closed today for incoming and outgoing flights,” said AirAsia in a statement today.

“Therefore all AirAsia and AirAsia X flights to and from Bali on 28 November 2017 remain cancelled until further notice. In addition, flights from and to Lombok also remain cancelled today,” it added

Meanwhile, it said following the cancellations, other flights affected is the Kuala Lumpur-Kolkata-Kuala Lumpur flights, namely QZ511 and QZ510, for today.

AirAsia said affected guests will be notified of their flight status via email and SMS.

Guests whose flights were cancelled are entitled to choose one of the following service recovery options being offered:

- Move flight: Change to a new travel time on the same route within 30 calendar days from original flight time without additional cost and subject to seat availability; or,

- Credit Account: Retain the value of your fare in a credit account for your future travel with AirAsia. The online Credit Account to be redeemed within 90 calendar days from the date of issuance.

AirAsia will continue to be in close coordination with related authorities and provide updates on the latest developments.

Malaysia Airlines had also suspended all flights between Kuala Lumpur and Denpasar-Bali today.

Owing to the situation, Malaysia Airlines will allow affected passengers to:

- A full refund on all refundable/non-refundable tickets for passengers who are ticketed on or before 27 and 28 Nov for travel to /from Denpasar between 27 Nov and 11 Dec. Tickets must be submitted for refund at the very latest by 11 Dec.

- Change of destination (subject to seat availability and fare difference) to Jakarta, Surabaya or any ASEAN destination on Malaysia Airlines’ network for passenger who are ticketed to travel to/from Denpasar on or before 27 and 28 Nov for the travel period between 27 Nov and 11 Dec. Travel must be completed by 28 Feb 2018. No refund is permitted for any residual value (if any) upon change of travel destination.

- Passengers affected during this period (27 Nov to 11 Dec), are allowed to defer their travel but travel must be completed by 28 Feb 2018.

Malaysia Airlines will continue to monitor the situation and resume flights into and out of Denpasar as soon as it receives confirmation on improved weather conditions. The airline will also provide periodic updates regarding the situation via SMS, website (www.malaysiaairlines.com) as well as on its social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter).
