Floods in Raub clear up

KUANTAN: Raub has fully recovered from the monsoon floods which struck the district on Thursday, after the remaining 46 evacuees left the SK Chenua flood relief centre at 6pm today.

State Civil Defence Force (APM) director Zainal Yusoff said all seven relief centres in the district which were opened on Thursday night are now officially closed.

"The floods have completely receded and the weather has improved. However, the authorities will continue to remain on standby to respond to any eventualities.

"A total of 13 villagers were affected by the floods and initial investigations reveled the existing drains at the villages could not accommodate the excessive water capacity during the heavy rains," he said.

On Thursday, the second wave of monsoon floods which struck Raub, saw 250 people from 67 families evacuated to seven evacuation centres namely Kampung Temau’s multipurpose hall, Ulu Sungai’s multipurpose hall, Sega Lama’s multipurpose hall, Kampung Pia hall, SK Chenua, Ulu Renggol hall and the Kuala Semantan mosque.
