Selangor BN to lodge report with police and MACC on Kg Sungai Yu land scandal

PUTRAJAYA: Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) will lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police over the Kampung Sungai Yu land distribution scandal.

Its chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar said the Selangor state government had failed to practice integrity as it allegedly granted plots of land to the undeserving individuals.

"Selangor state government's Select Committee of Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) has admitted that there was a misappropriation in the land distribution in Kampung Sungai Yu. My question is why didn't Selcat hold a public hearing on this? When the state government has solved an issue or did something good, they would make a public hearing. But when this issue surfaced, they seemed to brush it under the carpet.

"We received numerous complaints from the public over this issue and we have done our own investigation. We found that there is abuse of power in the land distribution.

"This proves that the Selangor government has failed to carry out its duty in a transparent manner. We will make a report to MACC and police to probe into this case," he told reporters today.

Noh, who is the Tanjong Karang member of parliament, said, it was little too late for Selcat to restructure the Land Selection Committee (Jawatankuasa Pemilihan Tanah Senarai Nama Penduduk) by appointing five state assemblymen as committee members.

The five assemblymen are Permatang assemblyman Datuk Sulaiman Razak, Jeram assemblyman Datuk Amiruddin Setro, ljok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad and Bukit Melawati assemblyman Jakiran Jakomah and Sungai Burong assemblyman Datuk Shamsuddin Lias.

"When Selangor was under BN, it had been a practice to appoint the assemblymen as the Land Selection Committee. But when the oppossition takes over, they appoint their own crony and supporters such as village heads and district council members as the committee members.

"Why only now they want to restructure the whole thing? They have just realised that BN has adopted the right policy and when this scandal happened, only now they want to emulate us (BN).

"The damage has been done. The culprits behind this scandal deserve punishment," he said.

Noh added it was not right for Selcat to blame Kuala Selangor district land office over the issue as the officers were just doing their job.

Noh also condemned Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali for taking the matters lightly by only cancelling the 5A notices issued.

"It is so easy for him to cancel it. That is not enough. What about the culprits? They must face stern action too. This is just a cover up. If BN did the same, they will make a big rally over it and claimed that we are corrupted.

"Azmin said Selangor government is rich, transparent and says no to corruption. In Malay, we call this `cakap tak serupa bikin (not doing what is preached)'," he said.

Noh said Selcat had completed its report on the matter and was waiting for a statement from its chairman Hannah Yeoh.

The original residents of Kampung Sungai Yu, who have lived in the area for decades, claimed that there has been misappropriation of land matters, including the awarding of more than one lot per family, reselling of plots by several individuals, as well as registering using non-existent MyKad.

Kuala Selangor Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim had said the Sungai Yu scandal was a problem that sees certain sections of the community being marginalised.

Selcat has recently said that the distribution of land at Kampung Sungai Yu, Kuala Selangor to 175 applicants did not comply with the stipulated terms and conditions.

In this respect, Yeoh was quoted as saying Selcat had urged Selangor Menteri Besar to approve its proposal to resolve the issue, which include restructuring the Land Selection Committee.

Selcat also urged the state government to cancel the land distribution to the applicants for failing to adhere to

the 'one family, one lot' requirement.

Yeoh said Selcat does not allow family members of the Selection Committee to be beneficiary of the Kampung Sungai Yu lands.

She said the committee also wanted the Kuala Selangor district land office to pay serious attention to this issue and prevent it from recurring.
