144 lorry drivers & passengers killed in road accidents up to Sept 2017

KUALA LUMPUR: There were 144 fatalities involving lorry drivers and their passengers between January and September this year, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department's statistics had also shown that there were 12 fatality cases involving bus drivers and their passengers for the same period.

"Since 2008, bus accident fatalities are recorded at 0.6 per cent and for lorry at three per cent of the total accident fatalities in Malaysia," he said in response to Senator Sopiah Sharif's question during the question-and-answer session.

Accident cases, Liow added, would be investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987.
