MIRI: Three people were killed when the car they were in collided with a pick-up truck at Jalan Long Lama, Bakong near here today.
Victims Eyeo Chun Hua, 51; Tan Ai Shan, 28; and Tan Kheng Wai, 11; who were in a Perodua Alza car, died on the spot in the 3pm accident.
The car driver, whose identity could not be immediately obtained, escaped the crash with light injuries.
State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the four were heading towards Lapok from Miri when their car collided head-on with a Toyota Hilux coming from the opposite direction.
“One of the victims was pinned in the wreckage and firemen had to use “rescue tool” to remove Eyeo, who was in the front passenger seat,” he said.
The spokesman said five firemen were deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 3.20pm.
He said according to the police, the driver of the pick-up truck fled the scene after the accident.
It is learnt that police are trying to locate the truck driver to help in the investigations.
