Despite rain, flood situation improves in Pahang districts

KUANTAN: Despite intermittent rain, more flood victims have been able to return home state-wide, with only 284 people from 76 families remaining at relief centres as of 10am, compared to 377 people last night.

State Civil Defence Force director Colonel Zainal Yusoff said the two districts still affected by floods – Pekan and Raub – are continuing to show improvement despite the uncertain weather pattern over the last 24 hours.

He said there are 254 flood evacuees from 67 families at five relief centres in Pekan, and 30 people from nine families at a relief centre in Raub.

"The number of evacuees is slowly (decreasing, but) our concern is the current weather.

"As it is raining heavily in Kuantan this morning, we hope there will be no areas flooded or people requiring evacuation," he said.

Floods hit Raub on Tuesday; while floodwaters in Pekan, which was struck last week, have yet to recede.
