Malaysian superbiker killed, wife hurt in Southern Thailand crash

SHAH ALAM: A Malaysian superbiker was killed and his wife seriously injured when their vehicle collided with a car on the Petchakasem Highway between Hatyai and Phattalung in southern Thailand on Tuesday.

Muhammad Arif Shuhery, 34, a Petronas technician, died at the scene while his wife, Nur Arissa Ruri Ahon, 34, who was riding pillion, was rushed to the Phattalung Hospital, where she has undergone two surgeries.

The couple was part of a convoy of Malaysian superbikers on their way to Koh Samui in the Surat Thani region.

It is understood that their high-powered motorcycle collided with a car which had stopped suddenly at a police roadblock in the Paborn district at about 4pm local time.

In Malaysia, Muhammad Arif’s father, Shuhery Shuib, 59, said the family had been planning to hold a surprise family gathering to celebrate Muhammad Arif’s birthday on Feb 9.

“We were planning to surprise him. Then (on Tuesday), we received the sad news,” he told reporters when met at his home here on Wednesday.

Shuhery said that his son, the eldest of four siblings, loved high-powered motorcycles and regularly joined convoys to Thailand.

“Muhammad Arif and the convoy had departed from Penang to Koh Samui for a five-day trip. At about 4pm (on Tuesday), I received a call from my brother-in-law, who was part of the convoy, telling me the sad new,” said the pensioner. -- Bernama
