Education boost for Kota Marudu

KOTA MARUDU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced a list of allocations aimed at boosting education development here.

In officiating Sekolah Menengah Bandau (SMK) here, he announced RM1 million to upgrade the school's various facilities.

"I want to help Kota Marudu and I do not come with empty hands.

"I am announcing RM100,000 to improve the three computer labs here, RM250,000 for 90 computer sets, RM150,000 for the furniture for the computer labs, as well as RM500,000 for the school's open hall and public address (PA) system," he said to the cheers of the audience.

"Kota Marudu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili who went through surgery this morning, wants me to continue and announce other allocations namely RM35 million to build new school SMK Marak Parak and RM5 million for SMK Tandek hostel," he said.

Najib further stated that if the country was bankrupt as claimed by the opposition, he would not be able to make such announcements.

"If the country is bankrupt I would not be able to approve allocations everywhere I go," he added.

Najib said the opposition are known for lying and giving half-truths, including promising the things people want but the opposition could not realise.

"A government cannot claim to be populist just to be popular but has no vision and fail to plan.

"We must make sure what we promise can be done and not based on our fantasy which we know is not achievable.

"BN is realistic and we want to be top 20 nations in the world one day - this is not a fantasy or empty talk but signs of success can be seen today, such as 6.2 percent growth rate in the third quarter last year," he reasoned.

All the developments and achievements so far do not portray a bankrupt country but paving way for first-rate nation, said Najib.

He also promised to make sure Sabah develop at par with the rest of the country and development gap here reduced.

Najib said the Education minister had told that the ministry have so far deployed 87.4 percent of local teachers in Sabah, with only 2.6 percent to reach the 90 percent target.

"Even our education director-general (Datuk Dr Amin Senin) is a Sabahan," said Najib reflecting the federal listened to Sabah's requests.

In general he said BN is not asking people to vote blindly but with clear conscience 'because we are the best people to run the country'.
