Eco World Penang contributes flood relief aid to Pulau Aman villagers

KUALA LUMPUR: Eco World Penang once again came to the aid of villagers in Pulau Aman, Penang when it contributed everyday necessities worth RM10,000 as part of the setting-up of a flood relief centre on the island.

Located within walking distance from the island’s jetty, the relief centre will serve as an evacuation centre which could accommodate 40 people at a time

The facility could also serve as a command centre and a distribution point for relief supplies.

During the aid handover ceremony here, Eco World Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the contribution will lessen the burden of Pulau Aman villagers and the Penang state government during floods.

“With today’s contribution amounting to RM10,000, Eco World has spent a total of RM63,000 in flood relief (aid) for Pulau Aman’s residents since last November,” he said.

In Nov 6 last year, Lee and the Eco World team visited the island after it was hit by flash floods which crippled large parts of the state following prolonged heavy rain and gale-force winds.

The disaster forced 1,600 villagers to flee their homes and take shelter at several flood relief centres on the island.

Lee also announced that Eco World had repaired two houses which were badly-damaged by winds in the November storm.
