Selangor RTD officer arrested by MACC for bribe-taking

SHAH ALAM: A Selangor Road Transport Department (RTD) officer has been arrested by the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the suspicion of receiving bribes from several construction companies three years ago.

The suspect, aged 43, was detained at the Klang MACC office at about 2pm earlier on Monday.

A MACC source said the suspect was believed to have committed the offences in 2015 while he was working at the department’s weighing station in Kuala Selangor.

“The suspect had received monthly bribes of between RM100 and RM300 from two companies in return for not taking action under the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Apart from the RTD officer, we have also arrested three male individuals aged 30, 41, and 45 between 2.30pm and 4.45pm at the Klang MACC office,” said the source.

Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim confirmed the arrests.

“All four suspects will be brought to the Klang magistrate’s court to be remanded tomorrow to assist in investigations,” said Alias.
