Newborn baby found dead at Pulau Ketam mosque

KUBANG PASU: The body of a newborn baby, wrapped in a piece of batik cloth, was found in front of Pulau Ketam Mosque in Tunjang Jitra early this morning.

A man, who arrived at the mosque about 5.30am to perform the Subuh prayer, immediately contacted the police after checking out the wrapped sarong.

Kubang Pasu police chief Superintendent Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said medical officer from Jitra Hospital confirmed that the newborn had died some 24 hours before the body was dumped at the mosque.

He said a forensics team from the state police headquarters was at the scene carrying out further investigation.

"The body has been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star for post-mortem." he said
