KJ hopes to defend Rembau seat in GE14

REMBAU: Sports and Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has expressed hope to defend Rembau in the 14th general election as its constituents and their interests "are close to his heart".

He said, however, his wish could only be realised and determined by Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also the prime minister.

"Such is my hope (to defend Rembau)but that can only be determined by the BN chairman," he said in his speech at 'Program Ramah Mesra Wanita Bersama Pemimpin' at Raja Melewar Museum, Kampung Astana Raja here today.

Also present was State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Dr Awaluddin Said, who is also the Kota state assemblyman.

Khairy also urged grassroots leaders to continue to assist the people and render assistance to those in need.

"The grassroots leaders must carry out their responsibilities and go to the ground to help the people.

"This should be an ongoing effort, not just for the sake of the election," he said.

Khairy is a two-term incumbent for the parliamentary seat of Rembau.

In the last election, he polled a majority of 18,357 against PKR's Radzali A. Ghani and Independent Abdul Aziz Hassan.
