Teen killed after being thrown out of vehicle, landing on divider in three-vehicle KK crash

KOTA KINABALU: A Form Four student was killed when she was catapulted out of a car in a three-vehicle collision at the Jalan Tuaran bypass here on Thursday.

Nabila Jimos, who was a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Inanam, was in a (silver) Perodua Bezza with six other friends when the accident occurred at 4.57pm near Kampung Kalansanan here.

Nabila was thrown out of the car by the impact of the crash and landed on the divider.

Her mother, who arrived at the site after receiving news of the accident, was later seen crying next to her remains, which were covered in a white sheet.

According to district police chief Assistant Commissioner M Chandra, the accident was triggered by the Perodua Bezza making a sudden U-turn, which caused it to smash into a (blue) Perodua Bezza.

"(Then), a Honda City driven by a 50-year-old man who was travelling behind the (blue) Bezza could not avoid hitting (the silver Bezza).

“The victim was thrown out of the car and landed on the divider, and suffered severe head injuries. She was confirmed dead by a doctor from the Likas Women and Children's Hospital," he said.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old driver of the blue Bezza was taken to the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital for further treatment.

"The 16-year-old driver of the silver Bezza, and the Honda City driver were unhurt.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (causing death by reckless driving)," Dev added.
