Special birthday treat for 5-year-old boy in fire station

ALOR STAR: It was a day to remember for Muhamad Danish Izzuddin Syaiful Khairy who celebrate his fifth birthday yesterday at a fire station here.

Clad in tiny fireman uniform, the fourth of five siblings was given a tour of the station including meeting with firemen who risk their lives to help others.

His mother Siti Muzalina Morad, 39, said Danish told her and her husband, Syaiful Khairy Mahadzir, 42, repeatedly how thrilled he was looking at firemen and fire engines each time he passed by the state Fire and Rescue Department's station in Jalan Tun Razak on his way to a kindergarten in Taman PKNK.

“He talks about fire and rescue team every day, so I decided to give him a birthday surprise by celebrating it at a fire station," when met during the birthday celebration yesterday.

“However, the plan would not have materialised without cooperation from the state Fire and Rescue Department and its director Abdul Razak Muda who allowed the special occasion for Danish.”

According to Siti Muzalina, they had earlier planned to borrow the Alor Star station for a simple celebration but the department turned it into something special by involving 22 firemen and 50 guests including friends and relatives.

She added Danish was very excited when the department’s mascot joined in the celebrations.

The Alor Star Fire station chief Ahmad Naufal Abdullah said his team was happy to fulfill Danish’s wish to become a firefighter on his birthday.

He said despite their busy schedule in handling a few cases yesterday, the team did not want to let down the boy’s dream of becoming a firefighter.

“This event also helped us to build a better relationship with the public and at the same time we took the opportunity to promote fire safety campaign for those who were present at the event,” he said.
