Abused Indonesian maid had never complained about mistreatment in the past [NSTTV]

SEBERANG JAYA: The Indonesian maid, who died after being allegedly abused by her employers, has been working with them since December 2014.

The Consulate General of Indonesia in Penang said they had never received any report by the maid that she had been abused.

Its Consul for Consular Affairs Neni Kurniati said checks showed that this was also not the first time Adelina, 26, worked in Malaysia.

“We have never received any complaints from her since she first started working for her employers more than three years ago,” she said when met at the Seberang Jaya Hospital Forensics Unit here this afternoon.

According to Kurniati, Adelina has a valid passport but they were checking with the Immigration Department to see if she had a valid working permit.

Her passport also shows she hails from Nusa Tenggara Timur and not Medan as reported.

“From what we know, she was brought in by a Malaysian-based agency.

“We are still checking for more details,” she added.

Kurniati said they had been coordinating with the Seberang Prai Tengah police since they received information about the case.

Asked if Adelina’s remains would be brought back today, she said they were still trying to ascertain her actual address in Indonesia.

“But surely we will bring her remains back to her family. It will depend on the police’s permission however as we understand that criminal cases usually take time with the post mortem and investigations.

“We will await official confirmation from the police and the hospital before we decide on the next course of action,” she said.
