Watch: MyVi slams head-on into buffalo near Kuantan

KUALA LUMPUR: A video showing a white Perodua MyVi colliding with a buffalo at the East Coast Highway is going viral on social media.

In the 26-second footage recorded by a motorist, the animal was shown crossing the road when it was hit by the oncoming vehicle.

The buffalo then hit the ground before getting up and limping towards the highway verge.

The video showed the vehicle sustaining heavy damage to its bonnet as debris scattered.

It is understood that the MyVi was heading from Gambang to Kuantan and was travelling along the left hand lane.

LPT patrol officers had earlier set up a roadblock on the opposite side of the highway to grant the buffalo safe passage.

Patrol officers and several policemen were seen rushing to the animal and to control traffic.

It is not yet known whether the driver was injured, or when the incident took place. The animal’s fate is unknown.

The video was posted on the Info Roadblock JPJ/POLIS Facebook page and has received 23,000 views as at 11.30pm today.

Malaysia recorded more than 2,000 roadkill cases on the peninsula over five years, many involving endangered species.

In the first nine months of last year, the Department of Widlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia recorded the deaths of 212 animals on the road.
