20kg python that was preying on chickens captured

SERENDAH: The villagers of Kampung Tok Pinang have solved their snake problem with the successful capture of a python at 10.30pm last night.

When a farmer was jolted awake by the frantic clucking of his chickens, he rushed to the scene to find a python coiling itself around a chicken at a cowshed.

The 20kg python was aggressive. The farmer’s son, Mohd Abdullah Soleh, 19, said when the farmer caught a glimpse of a python he warned his son not to get too close, before contacting the ambulance for assistance.

“The python by then had abandoned the chicken and slithered onto the roof of the cowshed.

“The members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) managed to capture the snake,” he said when contacted.

According to him, for the past year they had lost 20 livestock.

The dead chickens were slathered in a slimy substance, believed to be snake vomit.

“Two days prior, our farmers had uncovered dead chickens who was killed in a similar manner.

“With the capturing of this python, we hope there would be no more disturbances,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hulu Selangor Regional APM Officer, Mansor Ab Rasid said five members were successful in capturing the python within 20 minutes and it has been released into its natural habitat.
