Suspected drunk driver among two killed in Gua Musang crash

GUA MUSANG: A suspected drunk driver and one of his passengers were killed when their Proton Wira crashed into a divider at Km70 of Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing here today.

The driver has been identified as S. Paramasivam, 33, of Cameron Highlands. The identity of the second deceased has yet to be ascertained.

A second passenger in the car, identified as Sharif Sayid Ahmad, 38, also from Cameron Highlands, survived with severe injuries in the 4.30am accident.

According to an initial police investigation, Paramasivam was driving under the influence of alcohol.

"(The three) were heading to Cameron Highlands from Gua Musang when the driver suddenly lost control of his vehicle, which skidded and crashed into a divider.

"The (driver and one of his passengers) were killed on the spot, while another was injured," said Gua Musang police chief Superintendent Mohd Taufik Maidin.

He said firemen were immediately alerted to the accident, and spent some time extricating the two bodies from the badly-wrecked car.

Mohd Taufik said that the remains were sent to the district hospital for post-mortems.

"The injured man was sent to the same hospital for treatment," he added.
