Streetlight bulbs, water pumps, even flower pots not spared by junkies in Kulim

KULIM: Junkies have become a menace in Kulim town. They are vandalising and stealing streetlight bulbs, water pumps and, even, flower pots to raise money for drugs.

Kulim/Bandar Baharu member of parliament Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir said they were derailing state government efforts to provide public amneties and beautify public parks.

“They are stealing just about anything that can be sold to fund their drug habit, including metal and plastic materials in parks.

“Streetlight bulbs and water pumps are stolen. Even flower pots are not spared by the junkies,” Aziz said at the Kulim/Bandar Baharu district Drugs Prevention Campaign at Taman Tasik Kulim here today.

Present was Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

Aziz said the damage caused by junkies was costing thousands of ringgit.

He urged everybody to do their part in a jihad (holy war) against drugs abuse.

“The people, especially parents, should be alert to what is happening around them. They should monitor their children. The public must keep the authorities informed about drug abuse in the community.

“The public should not leave it to police and the National Anti-Drugs Agency to fight this battle. They should play their part as well,” he said.
