KL hit by flash floods following hour-long downpour

KUALA LUMPUR: Flash floods hit several locations in the federal capital following an hour-long downpour about 3pm today.

This included on the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and Jalan Bangsar, where traffic flow was affected considerably.

Water entered several shoplots along Jalan Bangsar, leaving employees having to clean up after. The floodwaters, however, receded by 5pm.

The owner of one of the shoplots, who only wanted to be known as Mohamad, said he and other owners were fed up with flash floods occurring every time there was heavy rain.

“Every time it rains heavily, even for a little while, our shops are flooded. We believe that the drainage system here is incapable of handling high volumes of water whenever it rains heavily,” he said.

Checks with Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman showed no emergency calls were made to the department despite the flash floods and downpour.
