Negri cops ready for GE14, says chief

SEREMBAN: State police are prepared to deal with any problems that might occur during the 14th General Election (GE14) and campaign period.

Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said 3,700 policemen would be on duty.

“We are prepared. Our officers and personnel have been given training in preparation for GE14,” he said after launching a blood donation campaign in conjunction with Police Day celebrations here today.

He said 40 hotspots and flashpoint areas had been identified, based on experience in past elections, but refused to elaborate.

“We will focus more on these hotspot areas but the other locations will also be monitored,” he said.

He reminded candidates and supporters to refrain from spreading rumours, which could lead to unrest.

So far, he said, no one had lodged reports on wrongdoings related to GE14.

“I hope all parties will be careful. Don’t cause tension by raising sensitive issues such as race and religion. Please follow the rules. Stern action will be taken against those who break the law,” he said, adding that they hoped to get 150 policemen to donate blood today.

He said the campaign would be extended to other police district headquarters.
