PAS hopes PH federal government not vengeful

KOTA BARU: PAS is hopeful that the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government which came into power last week would resort to vengeful acts.

Instead the Islamic party hopes that the new government would be better than the previous Barisan Nasional administration.

Deputy PAS president, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, said such a hope not only springs from PAS but also is the hope of the people that the PH government carries out its responsibilities diligently and effectively.

“We are hopeful and expect the PH government to come up with a different image even though Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had previously been the Prime Minister.

“We are also hopeful that Tun Mahathir lets bygones be bygones and opens a new chapter as the Prime Minister.”

“We do not want the new government to become a vengeful government,” he told reporters after taking the oath of office as the deputy Kelantan Mentri Besar at Istana Kota Lama, here today.

In a separate matter, Mohd Amar said PAS welcomed the release of PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He adds the party had been consistent in its stand, in that the former Deputy Prime Minister was innocent.

“The release of Anwar was the news the people had been waiting for. We had been consistent from the past, in that he was not in the wrong and there was a conspiracy on the charges framed against him as well as his imprisonment.”
