SANDAKAN: A 19-year-old with a history of depression fatally slit his own throat with a saw at Taman Nuri here, yesterday.
The teen’s father found his son’s bloodied body in the kitchen of their house at midnight.
The deceased had also inflicted severe injuries to other parts of his body using the 30cm saw, which he was still clutching when he was found.
It is learnt that the young man had fallen into a deep depression after his parents prevented him from joining activities at his church three days ago.
Arrangements had also been made for the teen to travel to Kuala Lumpur for work, but he had refused to leave.
“(He was) an active church group member in this district.
“(He had also been taken) to the Sandakan Airport the previous day to travel to Kuala Lumpur for work, but he refused to go and returned home.
“At home, he did not speak to his parents,” District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said.
“An examination of the body showed that there were no wounds caused by struggle.
“The body was sent to the Duchess of Kent Sandakan Hospital for a post-mortem and the case is being classified as sudden death,” Mohd Azhar added.
