TUARAN: A 2-year-old girl drowned during a family outing at Kampung Poturidong in Kiulu, yesterday.
Jennifer Evva Allyssa Allai was discovered floating in Sungai Kiulu about one hour after she went missing.
Her family, from Kampung Keliangau, Manggatal, was having a picnic in the area when they noticed her missing at 4pm.
Her body was found by villagers at 5.20pm in the water near a rest house about 700 metres from the picnic location.
Jennifer’s parents were apparently busy barbecuing as their six children were swimming at the side of the river.
“Soon after, they realised that the girl was missing and tried to locate her, but failed.
“The family was on its way to the police station to file a report when a villager said that the victim was found floating in the river,” said Tuaran district police acting chief Assistant Superintendent Raji Hussin Suhodin.
