Producers of Crazy Rich Asians and Michelle Yeoh to turn 'Billion Dollar Whale' into film

KUALA LUMPUR: The book on embattled 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and fugitive financier Low Taek Jho or Jho Low is set to hit the big screen with SK Global acquiring its film rights.

Co-author of the book titled 'Billion Dollar Whale' Tom Wright shared the news on Twitter.

The film is set to be produced by Ivanhoe Pictures which is an SK Global company.

Co-producing the movie is film actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh who recently pacted with Ivanhoe Pictures.

According to a statement shared by Wright who co-wrote the book with fellow Wall Street Journal colleague Bradley Hope, the announcement was made by SK Global president John Penotti.

"Tom and Bradley have crafted a thoroughly compelling telling of this unbelievable story," Penotti had said, saying the company was proud to be associated with the project.

As for Wright, he said together with Hope, they were "thrilled to be partnering with SK Global to bring the incredible story of Jho Low, a modern-day Gatsby, to the screen."

Recently, Ivanhoe Pictures co-produced and co-financed Crazy Rich Asians which grossed US$200 million worldwide.
