Pahang khalwat raids adhere to SOP

KUANTAN: Personnel and enforcement officers at the Pahang Islamic Religious Department (JAIP) always adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) in conducting khalwat related raids in the state.

Its deputy director Datuk Mohd Ghazali Abdul Aziz said they have never acted aggresively or cause damages to premises during such operations.

"There are no extreme actions or things that infringe on the freedom of a person, including the offenders, infact we do things in a civil manner.

"There are those in the community who want us to be more aggresive in preventing vice related activities and to increase khalwat raids," he said when contacted by NSTP.

Mohd Ghazali was asked to comment on the recent issue in which Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa wanted improvements in the SOP for khalwat raids.

Mohd Ghazali said there are those who have a negative perception towards religious enforcement officers and label what they do as extreme.

He said JAIP only acted on complaints from the public including spouses of the alleged khalwat offenders.

Raids, according to Mohd Ghazali, are only conducted if the information received is legit.

"It can be said that close to 90 percent of the raids done are based on complaints, involving various types of premises.

"We have been conducting anti vice campaigns aggresively over the past five years in a bid to raise awareness," he added.
