Ambulance driver killed, passenger injured in crash on NSE

KAMUNTING: A 22-year-old ambulance driver was killed and a passenger was injured after the vehicle crashed at KM1194.5 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near the Gunung Semanggol R&R.

In the 5pm incident, the driver, identified as Nuril Anwar Rusdi, was driving the ambulance with R P Thanaventan, 21, as the passenger.

Perak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Superintendent Ahmad Adnan Basri said initial investigation revealed that the ambulance was heading to the south.

“He lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the guardrail on the left side of the road. Following the impact, the vehicle then skidded to the right lane and crashed into the road divider.

“Nuril Anwar died at the scene,” he said.

Ahmad Adnan said the body had been sent to Parit Buntar Hospital’s forensic unit for a post-mortem while Thanaventan was receiving treatment at Taiping Hospital.

“The investigation is still ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
