Kedah PKR secretary remanded over allegations of money politics

ALOR SETAR: Kedah PKR secretary is being remanded for seven days until Oct 31 to facilitate investigation over alleged money politics during the recent party divisions election.

The remand order against the 59-year-old was issued by Alor Setar magistrate’s courts assistant registrar Jamaludin Elias following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency.

The suspect, who was the party candidate for the Bukit Pinang state seat during the 14th General Election (GE14) was seen escorted by two Kedah MACC officers at the court.

It is the learnt that he was arrested at 4.10pm yesterday after surrendering himself at the state MACC office.

A source said the suspect, along with two men aged 46 and 48 had also been detained last month for allegedly demanding RM20,000 bribe from a man as inducement for the latter’s name to be inputted in the system and registered as a party election candidate.

The suspect has previously involved the victim that his name, along with several people, was initially dropped from the list of candidates.

He had told the victim that he could help overturn this with some incentive.

Meanwhile, Kedah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohamad when contacted, said the man was being remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 16(a)(A) of MACC Act 2009.
