Negri Sembilan palace strips Najib, Rosmah of Datuk Seri titles

SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan palace has revoked the Datuk Seri titles that were conferred on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

State Secretary Dr Razali Ab Malik, who is also State Registrar of Awards, said Najib was stripped of the Darjah Seri Utama Negeri Sembilan (SPNS), which carries the title Datuk Seri Utama, and Rosmah was stripped of the Darjah Seri Paduka Tuanku Ja'afar Yang Amat Terpuji (SPTJ), which carries the title Datuk Seri.

He said the revocation of the awards was decided today (Oct 26) during a special meeting of the awards, titles and honours commitee at Istana Besar Seri Menanti, near Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan.

Najib was conferred the SPNS award in 2005 while Rosmah was conferred the SPTJ award in 2006.

"The decision is aimed at safeguarding the honour of the Negri Sembilan royal institution," he said in a statement today.

It is understood that Najib still holds Datuk Seri titles from other states, including Pahang, Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, Penang, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis.

Rosmah, meanwhile, still holds Datuk Seri titles from Pahang, Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, Kedah and Selangor.
