Politicians told not to expect money from Youth and Sports Ministry for sports associations

KUALA LUMPUR: Politicians who captain sports associations should not seek special allocations from the Youth and Sports Ministry.

Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said some wanted such positions for political clout.

“I want to avoid interfering in such selection process. It should be done independently by the National Sports Council, that has been in the industry for many years,” he told reporters at the parliament lobby here today.

He was asked to comment on Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon offering himself as president of the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA).

He also stood firm on not encouraging politicians to head sports bodies or associations.

On his statement that the era of “ketuanan melayu” or Malay supremacy was over, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) youth chief said his views were in line with the Prime Minister’s stand that the rights enshrined under the Federal Constitution should remain and be protected.

On the Kinrara Oval pitch, Syed Saddiq said he had got in touch with Malaysian Cricket Association and SP Setia.

“We are trying to find a win-win solution and we have met them separately.

“Our ministry has a few options to offer to both parties and see if they can be in agreement.

“Hopefully there will be a consensus,” he said.

It was reported that the land Kinrara Oval is sitting on has to be returned to its owner after MCA’s 15-year lease expires on Oct 31.

(MCA) said it had been given a notice to vacate the Kinrara Oval, which was previously a popular recreational ground for Kinrara residents, by Oct 31 as its lease had expired.

The land belonged to Kinrara Housing Bhd (PKB), a Puchong-based real estate developer and subsidiary of property development company I&P Group Sdn Bhd.
