Seafield temple riot: NSC meeting to discuss strict measures to be taken

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government will implement several strict measures in the wake of the violent episodes at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ25, Subang Jaya.

Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the measures will be discussed at a closed National Security Council (NSC) meeting this afternoon.

The meeting will also be attended by the police.

"This afternoon we will get to see the actual situation of what happened, who was involved and so on. I need to take strict action.

"The police will give a full briefing and the NSC meeting will look at the best measures so that peace can be restored in the area," he said when met on the sidelines of the Selangor state assembly sitting, here, today.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said that he was advised by the police to avoid going down to the location himself.

"I need to get a full report and confirmation on the situation from the police because they are there.

"I hope there is no repeat of what happened," he said, also referring to the incident in which a fireman was attacked at the scene by rioters.

In related development, Amirudin denied that the state government was late in responding to what happened.

He said the issue was closely related to security factors and the state government has no security directives to issue.

"This incident took place last night and early this morning and police were there to control the situation.

"After that, yet another riot took place and now we call the NSC in," he said.
