KUALA LUMPUR: The eldest son of the late composer Johan Nawawi and his wife, singer Nora Ariffin, tied the knot with Putri Eliya Sofea Azman, 22, at Masjid Putra, in Putrajaya this afternoon.
Mohd Syakir Iman Johan, 26, had gotten engaged to Putri Eliya in Feb 2017, just about a month before Johan passed away on March 24 due to health complications.
Nora told Berita Harian today that she was saddened by the fact that Johan was not around to witness their eldest son entering the world of marriage.
"When Syakir got engaged, he was there. He also reminded them not to stay engaged for too long. Whatever it is, I am relieved that Johan's wish for Syakir and Sofea to get married as soon as possible has been realised," Nora who was seen shedding tears the moment her son was officially married to Putri Eliya, said.
On the date selection, Syakir said he picked Jan 19 as it was close to his birthday which falls on Jan 16.
"Also, the figure 19119 looks nice," he said when met after the solemnisation ceremony.
