BMW bursts into flames in PJ crash, burning driver beyond recognition

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was killed when the BMW sedan he was driving skidded and crashed into a roadside tree before bursting into flames at Jalan PJU 1A/1 in Petaling Jaya, early today.

The vehicle – including its registration number plates – was completely charred and the man was burnt beyond recognition, Bernama reported.

It is learnt that the accident occurred at around 4.50am as the car was cruising along a straight stretch of the four-lane road, heading towards Jalan Lapangan Terbang Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (LTSAAS) Subang.

A team from the Petaling Jaya Fire and Rescue Station took 15 minutes to extinguish the flames, Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said in a statement today.

He added that police are working to ascertain the identity of the man, whose charred body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987, Mohd Zani added.
