Papagomo to be released on bail, says DIGP

SHAH ALAM: Umno Youth exco member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who was remanded for allegedly assaulting Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, will be released on bail today.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said this following the end of the three-day remand against Wan Muhammad Azri, better known as Papagomo.

“We will allow bail. We have investigated the case and the claims by (Syed Saddiq). It is not so serious to the extent that it would trigger a fight.

"There was a misunderstanding, and pushing and shoving (tarik menarik) did happen," Noor Rashid said, adding that the police felt Wan Muhammad Azri could be released on bail until they complete investigations.

Noor Rashid told this to reporters after attending the Selangor police contingent level investiture ceremony of the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara medal held at Dewan IPK Utama, here, today.

He added that investigations into the case will be wrapped up soon and statements of witnesses will be recorded.

"Once we feel that we have enough statements from the witnesses, we will refer the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for a decision,” said Noor Rashid.

On Sunday, Wan Muhammad Azri was arrested at his house in Setapak for allegedly roughing up Syed Saddiq, who claimed he was choked by the former after the nomination process for the Semenyih by-election.

Wan Muhammad Azri was brought to the Kajang district police headquarters to have his statement recorded and subsequently remanded for three days.
