Nurul Izzah quits PAC

KUALA LUMPUR: Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar has resigned from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today.

“Yes, I can confirm that she’s already withdrawn herself from PAC,” Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) communications director Fahmi Fadzil said when contacted by Bernama.

Her action is believed to stem from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s desicion to allow PAC chairman Ronald Kiandee to remain in the post despite the fact that the Beluran MP no longer being an opposition lawmaker.

Kiandee who left Umno last year to become an independent lawmaker was accepted as a member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia last week.

On Saturday, Dr Mahathir said Kiandee would not need to step down because the PH manifesto was only a “policy and not institutionalised or part of the constitution”.

The move to retain Kiandee as the PAC chairman was opposed by PH leaders Hannah Yeoh, as well as Nurul Izzah.

Nurul Izzah in her Facebook post today said: “The chairperson of the PAC must be filled by the opposition to pursue accountability of the Executive.” – Bernama
